Current Club Status: All Clubs Closed. Reopening preparation underway.

We can’t wait to welcome our Members and community back into our Clubs in what we hope is the not-so-distant future. As we are hard at work getting our Clubs and Associates ready to reopen our doors, we wanted to keep you up to date on our progress and answer some of the questions you may have.

Q:What changes is GoodLife making to ensure each Club is safe?

A: For over 41 years our focus has been on providing an exceptional Member experience with safety and cleanliness always at the forefront and that has never been more important than right now. Next week, we will be sharing ‘The GoodLife Standard’ via email and social media that will detail our commitment to a caring and safe approach to reopening and operating our Clubs going forward. It will include information on how we will:

  • Increase physical distancing and decrease Club capacity to meet or exceed public health recommendations
  • Enhance our focus on extensive cleaning
  • Provide our Associates with extensive safety training on our new procedures and cleaning practices
  • Create the best live and digital experience possible for our Members
  • …and more!

The GoodLife Standard has been put together by a dedicated team that is hard at work consulting with experts in public health, infection prevention, cleaning sanitization to ensure we are taking every step to fulfill our commitment to you.

Q: What is GoodLife’s timeline for reopening?

A: Given the regionalized response to COVID-19 in Canada, we plan to reopen our Clubs on a province-by-province basis and the official opening dates will be informed by a number of factors including:

  • The stage each region is at with their recovery
  • Information and guidelines released by public health authorities
  • The implementation of The GoodLife Standard in Club.

GoodLife is closely monitoring all federal and provincial guidelines and we are committed to meeting or exceeding them and will only reopen when we are comfortable that it is safe to do so. This means not only having the green light from provincial governments and public health officials but also being confident that we have our standards in place so that Members and Associates feel safe coming back to our Clubs.

The first Club we have a tentative reopening date for is the Charlottetown Belvedere Plaza in PEI that is scheduled to open on Monday, June 15. The P.E.I. government communicated several weeks ago that restrictions for gyms will be lifted on Friday, June 12 the timeline for phased reopening has been increased and gyms are permitted to open on June 1. However, to ensure our Clubs meet The GoodLife Standard we will be sticking with our June 15 date and look forward to welcoming our PEI Members back on that day!

Q: When and how will I learn about my Club’s reopening date?

A: Our intention is to let you know about the reopening date for your Home Club 2 weeks prior to the date. You will be notified via email so make sure to check your inbox for more updates from us! We will also be posting updates on the Club pages in our Member portal.

Q: My Membership is currently on freeze, when will my dues start up again?

A: We can assure you that Membership dues will NOT be turned on until your Home Club reopens. More information will be provided to you about this in the email you will receive 2 weeks in advance of the reopening date.

Q: When will I be able to make changes to my Membership or Personal Training?

A: Once you have received the email 2 weeks in advance of your Clubs reopening date, we will start to be able to process changes to Memberships, if required. Before that email, we cannot process any changes to Memberships or Personal Training.

Q: The Province I live in has announced the date when gyms are permitted to reopen—does this mean GoodLife will reopen on that day?

A: GoodLife is closely monitoring all federal and provincial guidelines and are committed to meeting or exceeding them and will only reopen when we are comfortable that it is safe to do so. This means not only having the green light from provincial governments and public health officials but also being confident that we have our standards in place so that Members and Associates feel safe coming back to our Clubs.

Updates from Patch, Founder and CEO

On March 16, GoodLife made the proactive and important decision to temporarily close our Clubs to protect our Associates and Members from the spread of COVID-19. In reviewing information from public health authorities and seeing the increase in cases in Canada at the time, we made this very difficult decision despite the significant impacts this would have on our business, as it was in the best interest of the health and safety of our people and community.

Closing our Clubs was the right thing to do. Keeping our Clubs closed is the right thing to do. Unfortunately, the right thing to do and the hardest thing to do, can often be the same thing. Because of this closure, it has become necessary for GoodLife to temporarily reduce its staff.

To lessen the financial burden on our Associates, we have provided them with two weeks’ compensation, and everyone enrolled in GoodLife’s employee benefits plan will continue to receive benefits. It is our intention to have all our people return to work, once it has been deemed safe by provincial and federal governments and is appropriate for us to reopen our Clubs.

A message from our CEO

We have made the difficult but important decision to temporarily close all GoodLife Fitness and Fit4Less Clubs across Canada, effective March 16.  "Our purpose has always been to give every Canadian the opportunity to live a fit and healthy life. There is no moment in our history where that purpose is more important than today. Like other businesses across the country, we are closing our doors to further limit the spread of this virus and to protect the most vulnerable in our community. It is the right thing to do."  - Patch

During this time, All Member payments are being suspended as of Tuesday March 17 and any paid-in-full Memberships will be put on freeze until further notice and expiry dates will be extended accordingly.  In addition, any time that has been paid for will be credited toward memberships upon reopening.  Rest assured, all payments have been suspended for every member and GoodLife has taken care of this for you.
