QUICK TIP

Let the burger patties rest in the fridge for 30 minutes. This will help them stay together when grilling.

Equipment Needed

Measuring cups and spoons, baking sheet, food processor, grill pan, knife and a cutting board

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°.

Open the can of black beans and thoroughly drain and rinse them. Spread the beans on a baking sheet and bake them in the oven for 15 minutes.

While the beans are in the oven, combine the ground flax seeds and ground chia seeds with 2 tablespoons of water. Let the paste rest for 10 minutes to form a gel like substance, which will act as an egg replacement.

When the beans come out of oven, transfer them to a food processor with the remaining seasonings and the gelled flax and chia.

Purée until smooth and then form the mixture into two equal patties.

Preheat a grill pan to medium-high heat and brush it with olive oil.

Grill the burger patties for 4-6 minutes per side, or until golden and crispy.

Slice and toast the buns. Slice the tomato, onion and pickle.

Top the bun with the grilled burger patty, vegan cheese, pickles, tomatoes and onion. Add any desired condiments (we used ketchup, mustard and vegan mayonnaise). Serve and enjoy.
