  • SC – Single Crochet
  • SL ST – Slip Stitch
  • CH - Chain
  • ST – Stitch
  • HDC – Half-Double Crochet
  • DC – Double Crochet
  • BPHDC – Back Post Half Double Crochet
  • CS – Chain Space
  • BLDC – Back Loop Double Crochet
  • SK – Skip stitch
  • BPDC – Back Post Double Crochet
  • FPTC – Front Post Triple Crochet

Size 5mm hook used but play with your gage to get the results you like. We used Yarnspirations Caron Cakes 4 weight (2 cakes = approximately 766 yards)

Round 1
Magic Ring SC 6 and join to first stitch with a SL ST to join (6 stitches)

Round 2
CH 1 2SC in each stitch around.  Join with SL ST (12 stitches)

Round 3
CH1 * SC in next St, 2SC in following St *  Rep 6 times then SL ST to join (18 Stitches)

Round 4
Ch1 * SC and HDC in next stitch, DC CH1 DC in next St, HDC and SC in next St * 6 times SL ST to join (48 Stitches)

Round 5
CH1 BPHDC around next 3 St 2SC in CS, * 6 BPHDC, 2 SC in CS * 5 times.  3 BPHDC in last St – SL ST to join. (48 Stitches)

Round 6 
CH 3  * 48 BLDC * SL ST to join

Round 7
CH 3 * 7 DC in same ST, SK 2, SC in next ST, SK 2 * 8 times.  Join with SL St to top of CH 3

Round 8
CH 3 (counts as 1 DC) * 6 BPHDC, 3 DC in round 7's SC round. * Repeat until the last SC from round 7 is left.  In last SC only DC 2 the SL ST to join to starting CH 3

Round 9
CH 4, * BPDC in next ST and CH 1 x 4 .  2 FPTC in DC x 3. SK hidden ST and DC in next SP, CH1 x 5. * 7 times.  2 FPTC in each DC from previous round 3 times.  Join in 3rd chain with SL ST

Round 10
DC all around skipping the CH 1 spaces

Round 11
CH 4 (counts as a DC and Ch 1)  * SK ST, DC, CH 1, SK St, 2 DC in same St, CH 1* all around until last repeat.  SK ST and 1 DC.  Then Join with Sl ST to third chain in starting CH 4. (110 Stitches)

Rounds 12 through 16
CH 1, SC all-around 110 St.  Sl ST to join (110 Stitches)

Round 17
CH 5 (counts as 1 DC and CH 2) SK 2 * DC, CH 2, SK 2, DC, CH 2 * Join to 3rd CH with Sl ST

Round 18
CH 3 (counts as DC) 4 DC in same ST *SK CH 2 SP, SC in DC.  SK CH 2 SP, 5 DC in same St * Repeat all around ending with a Sc.  When making this last SC, SL St into 3rd CH of your starting 3 CH at the same time

Continue with Rounds 17 and 18 alternating until the desired length is reached.  Make sure you end in Round 17

Finishing 2 Rounds 
CH 3 (counts ad DC) * 2 DC in CH SP, Dc in previous rounds DC* continue all around – Join with Sl ST in 3rd Ch.

CH1 SC all around and SL ST into beginning ST 

You may finish off and weave in your ends at this point or leave yarn attached to continue on to handy dandy shoulder strap

Shoulder Strap
Leaving yarn attached CH3 (counts as DC) * DC4, CH 3 and turn *

Continue in this pattern until the desired length is reached.  Attach to bottom of your bag in the last row of SC before starting your Shell Pattern. Weave in your end
