A popular way to get away from it all is to go nowhere. That’s right, nowhere – you can have plenty of fun by simply staying put.

It’s called a “staycation.” It means you pack zero bags, don’t have the stress of fighting traffic or getting through customs and don’t have to spend all your hard-earned money on getting to your destination.

The goal of a staycation is the same as a vacation – to take a break from your day-to-day life.

Here’s how you can make the most of your staycation.

Plan
The key to a great staycation is figuring out what you want to do. Is it a day at the spa, a hiking adventure, a day trip or just staying home curled up with a good book?

Everyone has their own staycation style – active or relaxed, indulgent or healthy, low-key or busy. Whatever you’re in the mood for, plan accordingly to make the most of your much-deserved time off.

Budget
Part of staycation planning includes budgeting. Just as you would create a vacation budget; decide how much you can spend on your staycation.

Keep in mind; you’ve saved a great deal by not going on an elaborate vacation that requires plane tickets or spending a ton of money at the gas pump. You’ve saved on hotel costs and other travel expenses.

One way to plan is to figure out exactly how much you’re saving by not going away. For example, you may already be saving more than $1,000. Could you spend a third or half of that and still feel comfortable?

Try searching for deals as well. If you want to be active on your staycation why not get an unlimited week’s worth of yoga classes? A massage? A pass to a provincial park to do some hiking? It’s the perfect opportunity to treat yourself or try something new.

Stay home
The best staycations include pampering yourself. Order your favourite take-out (or if you’re feeling adventurous, try a new spot), watch some Netflix or read a book. Whatever you want to do, enjoy your time and relax.

Perhaps you can indulge in some self-care rituals. Take the time for a nice, hot bubble bath, put on a facemask and enjoy the pure, relaxing bliss.

If you use this time for a little R and R, there’s no doubt you’ll feel refreshed and rejuvenated.

Get off the grid
Be sure to stay off your work email during your staycation. To avoid any temptation, you may want to get off the grid. Maybe this means limiting your screen time and putting your tech aside. If you’re going out for the day, try some simple tricks like leaving your phone at home, turning off your notifications or scheduling a few days to go completely tech-free!

Planning a staycation is not only fun but will help you recharge your batteries!
