A Workout Routine to Try with Your Gym Buddy

Grab a friend and give these partner exercises a go. They’re designed to challenge you both, build strength, and keep things interesting.

Medicine Ball Squat Toss

  • Stand facing each other about three paces apart.
  • One person holds a medicine ball, performs a squat, and tosses the ball as they rise.
  • The other catches the ball, squats, and repeats.

Great for: Full-body strength and coordination.

Forward Lunge Ball Exchange

  • Stand a stride apart, one person holding a medicine ball.
  • Both partners lunge forward on the same leg, exchanging the ball at the bottom.
  • Alternate legs and repeat.

Great for: Core strengthening and balance.

Push-up with Shoulder Tap

  • Assume a high-plank position facing each other.
  • Perform a push-up, then tap your partner’s opposite shoulder at the top.
  • Keep alternating hands with each push-up.

Great for: Bodyweight training and core stability.

Plank High-Fives

  • Both partners hold a plank position facing each other.
  • Lift one hand and high-five your partner, alternating hands.

Great for: Core strengthening and fun teamwork.

Sit-Up Pass

  • Lie on your backs, knees bent, feet flat, facing each other.
  • One partner holds a medicine ball, performing a sit-up and passing the ball to the other.
  • Repeat the sit-ups, passing the ball back and forth.

Great for: Core strengthening and coordination.

Bodyweight Squat Hold

  • Stand back-to-back and lower into a squat together.
  • Hold the position for 30 seconds, then return to standing.

Great for: Leg strength and endurance.

Tips for a Successful Partner Workout

  1. Communicate: Share your fitness goals and any limitations to ensure a safe, enjoyable workout.
  2. Warm Up Together: Start with dynamic stretches or light cardio to get your muscles ready.
