DARCY – Darcy lost 125 pounds and 50 inches off of his waist working out with a GoodLife Personal Trainer three times a week and on his own three other days a week.

“You’re never too old to make a change, get a trainer, let them challenge you. What is a better investment?”

I work out with my trainer on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, which are my favourite days. I really enjoy any workout that involves mixing up work on different muscle groups. From Supersets to Tri-sets to Multi-sets, anything that keeps me working out with little rest is what I love most.

Recently I tried a workout involving a variation of the Javorek Complex. What that involves is doing a round of three different exercises for a certain length of time. Then the next time through, another exercise is added to the rotation, and so on. It is both challenging and exhausting, but it is effective.

LISALisa had a BMI that was in the obese range and lacked much strength. After getting into Spin classes, Yoga and the Elliptical machine at GoodLife, she’s gone from a size 14-16 to a size 4-8.

My favourite workout is Spin class. It’s an excellent cardio workout and can be constantly adjusted to adapt to my own personal fitness level by regulating the intensity. Plus, the Instructors are fantastic. I am able to push through any difficult portions of the class because of their motivation, the music and just the energy that is created within the room.

I also love the Virtual Spin classes, because I can always just complete a class when it is convenient for me.

I generally participate in Spin 4-5 times a week, twice of which is with an instructor. My leg strength and glute definition are definitely improved and it creates no strain on my lower back!

REBECCA – Rebecca used to be intimidated by the gym as a plus size woman until she tried the Women’s Only GoodLife. She’s now 50 pounds lighter and can deadlift 200 pounds.

“I thought I would be heavy and plus size all of my life.”

I do love BODYJAM, which was my first GoodLife workout and it helped me lose my first 20 pounds! I also enjoy BODYFLOW, which is an incredible class. I still attend both of these classes regularly. 

I do interval training on the treadmill and I use an app called "aaptiv". It's an amazing tool! Occasionally I will do kickboxing sessions too.  

2 - 3 days per week I do an hour of weightlifting. At the beginning, this involved dumbbells and machines. Machines are great for beginners because there are instructions on all of GoodLife’s machines and there is a low risk of injury when they are used properly. I progressed to barbells once I had a good foundation and now I train in the "Big 3" powerlifting movements of squats, deadlifts and bench press, combined with additional exercises. 

VANESSAVanessa found herself in a negative state of mind, overweight and insecure. She visited a Women’s Only GoodLife and fell in love with Zumba classes. She has since lost 70 pounds and has gained enough confidence to lead meetings at her school.

My favourite workouts are dance inspired - Zumba, Soca Dance Party and Cardio Dance Party.  The music moves you.  You don't need to think, just relax, have fun and destress!

I ensure that I do these classes with specific instructors at least 1-2 times a week.  The classes are generally 1 hour and I usually try to go 20 minutes before the classes to do some weight training.  I like to do a back-to-back, 2-hour class night on Thursdays which I refer to as my "de-stress night."

I have also made friends as a result of going to these classes, with a few of the relationships growing outside of the gym and becoming part of my regular life. 

The group dynamics are a big part for me.  The larger the group, the more energy that you feed off of, which results in a great workout full of sweat!

I can honestly say without these classes I wouldn't have enjoyed the success I have had or the motivation to go to the gym. 

RACHAEL – Rachael was sad and lost in her way, both physically and mentally. After visiting GoodLife and feeling welcomed and then empowered, she has lost over 110 pounds and feels transformed, both inside and out.

I love supersets of any kind. I will often use cables because I love resistance training and I find it’s the quickest way for me to get my heart rate up!

I often like to do a heavily-weighted set followed by a light weight set. So, for a leg resistance superset, I'll use the handle attachments to deadlift very heavy and then follow that with glute kick-backs!

GEOFFREY – Geoffrey realized that he didn’t care about life. He wasn’t looking forward. Living near a GoodLife that was open 24/7, he realized that he had no excuses. Now he’s down 60 pounds and feeling happy and energized.

Each one of the workouts I do takes about 45-60 minutes. I LOVE my leg days in the moment, but dread the day after.

  1. 10 minutes of walking on a treadmill to warm up
  2. Barbell squat – 3 sets of 12
  3. Dumbbell lunges – 3 sets of 12 per leg
  4. Seated leg curl – 3 sets of 12
  5. Seated leg extension – 3 sets of 12
  6. Stiff legged deadlift – 3 sets of 12
  7. Calf raises – 3 sets of 12
  8. Crunches – 3 sets of 30
  9. Hanging leg raise – 3 sets of 15

I’m also really pumped about my runs and I have managed to hit 5 miles (8K) in the 30 minutes that I’ve allotted to myself.
