Week one: OMG did this hurt! I don’t think there was one muscle in my body that didn’t feel pain and this was likely a reflection of my overall fitness level. Despite the pain, the biggest surprise was how happy I felt after each class. Don’t get me wrong, it was tough, I don’t think I’ve ever sweat that much, but I felt a sense of accomplishment. The other members I was working out with, who were complete strangers, were my team and we all pushed each other to a level I didn’t know existed. The coaches were very attentive to form and posture and able to provide alternative moves or exercises if needed.

Week two: I finally hit somewhat of a consistent stride in the second week of PEAK. I focused on my posture, my movement and my form. I was able to closely follow my heart rate zone and keep them consistent with the programming, the myzone belt was invaluable for that. Using controlled breathing became a huge asset to my routine. I actually looked forward to coming to class, something I've never felt before when coming to the gym.

Week three: The first half of the week I was on vacation, and I definitely felt the effects of that when I returned. But as soon as I heard the first beat of the primer track I was back to a familiar place. It was strange how I felt, I’m struggling to explain it... connected? I guess I’d never focused on the why I’m doing a specific workout or the reason I’m at the gym but by week three there was a level or rapport I’ve built with the coaches.

Week four: This week I was on cruise control. The moves were all easier to grasp, I felt like I could think during the class and not just do. I was able to lower my heart rate between exercises and have a drink of water, something that was a luxury just a week and a half earlier. I could breathe during the workout and for the first time in a month, I felt ‘fit.’ I could feel my strength had increased and stamina was at a point I could likely do an hour class.

Final thoughts: PEAK shocked me. There was a steep learning curve with the movement, the quick changes between exercises and the intensity of the workout. Once that became familiar, it wasn’t like any other class or workout I’ve done. I felt happy and accomplished after each class, even though the first one that hurt like hell. The coaches talked about mindfulness during the workout and a sense of purpose, which honestly for the first 1-1.5 weeks was something I thought was unattainable, but it did come. During the class I’d become focused and have a clear head.
