The basic blend
Brewing the perfect coffee starts with grinding the perfect beans; when purchasing coffee, choose organic coffee beans that are single origin. Coffee beans are one of the most pesticide sprayed plants and low-quality coffee can contain small traces of mold when not handled properly in the harvesting process.
In fact, if you've ever had a coffee that made you feel anxious and jittery… it was likely pesticides and mold present in the coffee and not just the caffeine content. Yikes!
The best method of brewing:
If possible use a glass or metal kettle to boil the water, as high temperatures and plastic don't mix. This can lead to chemicals from the plastic seeping into your water, potentially adding toxins and bad flavour.
Always grind the beans fresh right before brewing, ground coffee loses its flavour and antioxidants within hours of being ground.
Use a glass French press to brew your coffee, as it's simple and effective and requires no filters. When using a French press, you want a coarse grind on the coffee beans. Use 2 tablespoons of whole beans per cup being brewed. Let the coffee brew in the French press for 7 minutes before pressing and serving.
