Homemade lemonade
On a hot summer day is there anything better than an ice cold glass of lemonade? We don’t think so… especially when it’s homemade. For a refreshing treat try our version of spiked lemonade (virgin option available)!
Iced tea with honey
We’re not talking the store bought, sugar packed type of iced tea. Simply strong brew your favourite tea and let cool to room temperature. Poor the tea over ice and sweeten with honey. Although, honey may have more calories than sugar it comes packed full of awesome health benefits. It helps fight heart disease and cancer, acts as a probiotic and strengthens the immune system… plus it’s delicious! Just limit your honey to one teaspoon for a touch of sweetness.
Iced coffee
Keep it simple and get that caffeine you oh so crave. Skip the whipped cream and flavours and indulge in a cold brew without exceeding your calorie intake. Generally, a medium iced coffee with milk contains approximately 25 calories.
Here’s a simple trick: freeze brewed coffee in ice cube trays. This way when you add 'ice' to your iced coffee you don’t dilute the coffee taste.
Let a cup of brewed coffee cool then pour it in a tall glass and add a handful of your coffee ice cubes. Sweeten with a bit of stevia if desired. You can add ¼ to ½ a cup milk. The coffee will be extra yummy if you can froth up the milk first.
Infused water
Add fresh fruit to your water for a low-calorie way to enhance flavour. The combinations are endless – just pick your favourite fruit and go to town! In the summer, berries are a classic combo mixed with club soda or sparkling water. The longer the fruit soaks the more flavour will seep out.
For a more sophisticated pallet try adding watermelon and basil:
Add approximately 2 cups of finely chopped fresh watermelon (without rind) to a gallon size glass jar. Add 15 leaves of muddled basil and fill the glass with filtered water. Store in refrigerator and allow at least 4 hours to infuse.
Vodka soda
In need of something a little stronger? Vodka soda is a great cocktail option and doesn’t have a lot of calories either. In fact, it’s a cocktail with the least amount of calories so really, you can’t go wrong!
