Stephen Hing from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan went from coasting through life to thriving. This is his story in his own words:

My weight loss journey started in 2015. I was 22 years old, 282lbs, unmotivated, and coasting through life. I started at a local gym with a friend doing a typical introductory weight workout routine. Due to my job and lifestyle, I still found that moving the scale was a struggle.

I started my membership with GoodLife in 2016 and instantly loved it. The bright, open environment, welcoming faces, and a few tips from a personal trainer had me hooked. From 2016 to 2017 the weight loss was slow. Although I did see progress with yoyo diets, the majority of the weight would come back after I fell off the wagon.

2018 was the year my mindset changed–I was done with being unmotivated, overweight and unconfident. I needed a change. At the time, I had a friend that worked at GoodLife and he helped me get back into a consistent workout routine and motivate me.

The next piece of the weight loss puzzle was my diet. I struggled with the chicken and rice approach and calorie restriction diets weren’t doing it for me. I did some research, and after trying it out, I discovered that intermittent fasting worked for me.

2019 has been the best and most influential year of my life. So many big changes that I am incredibly proud of. I attribute many of the things that I have been able to achieve and do this year to my confidence and discipline from weight training.

After bulking through the winter to gain back some muscle, I cut down to 14 percent body fat, and I was able to finally hit the 100lbs lost mark. I am now down to 182lbs. 

Even as I write this, I’ve never thought of myself as one of those success stories you would see posted online. I’ve loved my time at GoodLife so much that I pursued and obtained a job at the Prince Albert location!
