Last May, I hadn’t been feeling very well and knew something was terribly wrong. My daughter-in-law’s mom hadn’t been well either, and I didn’t want to concern my family more with my dizziness and irregular heartbeat, so I kept quiet.
When my husband and I went to the grocery store I had to sit down right on the floor because I almost passed out, but I thought I was just tired. My family kept asking me to eat healthier and start going to the gym. I said I don’t like to sweat and that I was fine.
The next day I was at work and I took a spell. My heart was flipping all over the place and I thought I was having a heart attack. I almost blacked out. They took me out of my workplace and into an ambulance.
I was so upset with myself when my son and his wife, my daughter and my mom were waiting for me. I still can’t get the look of their faces out of my mind.
The doctor came in and asked me what I do for exercise. I told him I have a gym membership. He asked how often I use it and I said: “Oh I’m supposed to go?” He didn’t find it funny.
That was it for me.
My whole family has been 100% supportive and the gym has been my lifeline to finally turning my life around and making a complete lifestyle change. My mom goes to the gym with me all the time. My daughter has been the confidence builder that I needed and I just got my husband to join too. My son Nick and his wife Aimee do my work out routines and call faithfully every Wednesday and Saturday to see how much my weight was.
I have gone back to see the heart specialist and he gave me a clean bill of health and told me that my blood pressure has gone down 20 points and whatever I have been doing to “keep it up!” because it’s working.
I have no more dizziness since my blood pressure is normal. When people say to me that being heavy doesn’t affect your way of life – in my case, it really did. I don’t know where I would be right now if I wouldn’t have become an active member at the gym.
My very first time going I was so nervous that I was shaking and almost in tears from embarrassment. When I entered the gym, an Associate named Justin made me feel so comfortable and did follow-ups to make sure I kept coming back.
I have a goal in May. There is a 5K walk and in my last two walks I finished in 1 hour 5 minutes and 56 minutes. This time I really want to finish in 45 minutes.
I know I don’t have a Personal Trainer but the people at GoodLife are so helpful. If I ask something I’m not sure of, they will help me out. I really believe GoodLife saved my life and I am very focused and confident that I will hit my goal.
Since I started, I have lost 55 pounds and I have another 35 pounds to go. I have gone from a size 22 pants down to a 16, and from a 3X to an XL. I can almost buy regular size clothing now and it has been 8 months since I started my journey.
