In early 2010 I was asked to stand in my friend’s wedding. She was going to have her wedding abroad in the Dominican Republic. My first thought was not how am I going to pay for this or who will look after my kids but how will I look in a bathing suit! I decided in October that year to acquire a trainer for a few sessions to get me back on track with what I needed to accomplish. Little did I know that these training sessions would turn into so much more than losing weight or inches, they turned into a rehabilitation story that has greatly improved my physical & mental health.
If you were to ask a group of women if they can shave their legs in the shower I’m sure the result would be a good show of hands. If you asked the same group of people how many have pain lifting their legs while in the shower, I’m sure the show of hands would be considerably less. I would be one of those people who would have put up their hand to having significant pain while lifting their leg to shave their legs.
All my life I have had pain, in different areas and at different times, which I’m sure we’ve all had in our lives. As I’ve gotten older the pain has increased a little more each year. My doctor suggested physiotherapy and I gladly went to my appointments hoping that this would be the answer to the pain I felt. After several sessions on different parts of my body, they did not seem to help. I did not feel any better nor did I feel that I benefitted from these sessions. Back off to the doctor I went in hopes of trying to resolve the pain that I felt. When I went back to the doctor, I was told that there wasn’t much more that they could do and that I was just going to have to live with it.
This is where my life took a turn for the better. As I started my sessions with Angella, I told her that I wanted to lose some inches for the wedding. After our 1st session, Angella was stretching out my body after a great workout and I clinched my mouth in pain. She asked me if it hurt I said yes! Angella told me that I should not be in pain to the degree that I was & thus transformed my losing inches sessions to rehabilitation sessions. I told Angella my history of doctor’s and physiotherapy and said that this was just the way it had to be and she said with confidence that this is not the way it has to be nor should it be.
I didn’t believe her at the time and continued on with my training with her. I still did my regular workouts along with eating healthy but where I saw the most improvement was in my flexibility, movement, mood and overall wellbeing. Before my training, I would stand in the shower to shave my legs and only be able to hold my leg up for a few seconds without being in terrible pain. The pain in my hip made it very time consuming to shave my legs as I would have to put my leg down several times.
After training with Angella, I can now shave my whole leg with considerably less pain that I had prior. To think that I thought this was just something I would have to live with! My mood & overall happiness has changed as well. No more am I sad and grumpy all the time & upset at the way I look & feel. Each day I continue to improve and it just makes me very excited about life again.
Angella Lee which we’ll just call her the “General Lee” as she can drive you to work harder than you ever thought it was possible as well as racing across the finish line with results that you can not only feel but attain. She is an amazing trainer and together I feel that we make a great team. She has a friendly ear to listen as well as push you to work harder than you ever thought you could. She can drive you to a whole other level which you may think is impossible but is possible. Who does a squat on a stability ball?? I can now!
I am still working towards my goal of being pain free but I know that this is a goal that is more than attainable. There is a future for me without pain and I thank GoodLife and Angella for making this not only a possibility but a reality.
