My name is Olivia and I live in Windsor, Ontario. I am a 14 year old grade 8 student, who loves staying fit and active! With so much drama happening in my grade, I find playing sports and going for jogs help provide me with a quiet and peaceful sanctuary where I can get away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Staying healthy and fit makes me feel energized and extremely confident. My body to me is like a car; I need to fill it with good quality gas, and I need to keep using it to make sure that it doesn’t break down.
Sometimes I find it really hard to keep my body in shape during the winter
because I usually play outdoor sports and go for runs, but I can’t do that when it’s snowing, so I found a solution! Dancing. I have a Wii, so I play dancing games on that or while I’m cleaning my room I’ll crank up the tunes and bust a move while I’m doing my chores. I find that the spring is the best time to jog since the climate is cool but gradually warms up as you run. Autumn is almost exactly like spring, but autumn can be a little bit cooler sometimes and cross-country falls under this season. And last but not least, the month for soccer, summer. I play almost all my sports during summer time. Soccer, some tennis, practicing baseball, and track & field all fall under these glorious warm set of months, and the best part is that you have so much free time to carry out these activities.
My friends also contribute to me staying in good shape. When I’m going for runs, it can be more motivating and encouraging to have a friend do it with you. You can chat, laugh, and even race each other which can fundamentally make this trick to staying fit more enjoyable. Furthermore, I am very competitive, so if I have a friend at my side, under achieving is not an option. Having a buddy with you can certainly make it worthwhile.
As easy as it is to not work out or eat junky foods, I know how good, peaceful and revitalized it makes me feel when I’m active and I eat healthy. Besides, as teens/pre-teens, we feel the constant pressure from our peers and media to stay lean or thin and, let me tell you, getting active really adds to that. There’s even the added benefit of confidence to gain too. It’s not just about looking good on the outside that compels me to stay active; it’s how great I feel on the inside. I just hope that more and more teens can rediscover how wonderful it feels when you exercise and stay fit. But until then, I’ll be writing 2 blogs each month, for July and August. So get pumped for summer, and anticipate my blog!
